GoPriceIt FAQ

Why is this site so lame?

This site's design is inspired by the simple designs of sites like Google and Yahoo! Unless you're skilled in graphic design, this is the approach I recommend.
If this is a servlet/JSP-backed site, why are there no .jsp extensions in the URLs?

Because I've defined servlet mappings that map .html pages to their .jsp equivalents. Why should the end user care about the technology that runs this site? And no, you can't access the JSPs directly because I've placed them in a protection domain. There is also a conventional servlet that is used by the J2ME client and by JSP files to actually fetch and parse the requested data from Amazon.com. See the web.xml file available on the source code page for more details on how this is done.
Hasn't this been done before?

Sure. What hasn't? This site is meant to be educational, not definitive.
Do you make money from this site?

Very little. Yes, if you happen to visit Amazon.com by clicking one of the links generated by this site and you happen to buy something, I'll get some small percentage of the selling price because I'm an Amazon Associate. That might pay some of my hosting costs. Maybe. Frankly, if you find this site useful I'd rather you express your support in one of these ways:
  • Send me a note saying you learned something from it. (Free.)
  • Read one of my many articles about J2ME on Sun's Wireless Java Portal and let the portal editors know that you find them useful. (Free.)
  • Buy one of my books and post an honest review of it on Amazon.com and similar sites. (Not free, but worth it.)
And if you have any questions about this site, please send me mail.
